I should be asleep. We are leaving on our journey of a thousand two thousand three thousand miles at 6 a.m. But i have that pre-travel edginess. What am I forgetting? Will everything go ok? We will make it there and back in one piece?
I know we’re going to have a great time. What a […]

I lub ooo
June 20th, 2007 · No Comments
Last night, Jules completely melted my heart when she said for the first time, “I lub ooo!” She uttered this ultimate sweetness into the blank pink face of her stuffed bear, but soon she was tossing I lub ooos at me with great abandon.
I lub oooo too, baby girl.

Met a new mommy, part 2
June 20th, 2007 · No Comments
This is a week of synchronicity. Yesterday, the kids and I went to a playground we rarely visit but enjoy. As I walked hand-in-hand with Davey into the toddler area, I noticed a boy about the same age running around. Oh yeah, he also happened to have Down syndrome. His mom spoke first, asking me […]

Met a new mommy
June 19th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Yesterday, because we were at a later time slot than usual for Davey’s therapeutic riding session, I got the chance to meet a mom (& her kids) whom I wouldn’t have otherwise. I am so glad the fates conspired as they did. This mom was at the session with her middle son, who is disabled. […]

Peeking out from under that rock
June 18th, 2007 · 1 Comment
So, where was I? I haven’t meant to be away so long, but I have been sucked into vortex that is preparing for a long vacation. Did I mention that we’ve decided to drive the whole trip? New England to Florida to Colorado then back to New England. Good thing we have six weeks to […]

On NOT getting on the bus
June 13th, 2007 · 1 Comment
For the first time this year, Davey threw a fit when I put him on the school bus this morning. He was pissed. And when Davey is pissed, he thrashes, he throws things, he kicks, he goes limp and refuses to stand. In other words, he, despite the “always happy” stereotype of kids with Down […]

Trading in our chevy for a cadillac
June 12th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Actually, I think we’re trading our Caddy for a Ford, but it has to be done.
Yesterday, our new tandem stroller (front-to-back, for you unmultipled readers) arrived. I waited all day for it (you know, in between the rest of life) and was psyched to see the big Graco box on our porch when we got home […]
Channeling her inner streaker

Houston, we have a new problem.
Jules has discovered the sweet pleasure of a gentle breeze on a bare bottom. At first, it was cute and almost helpful. Oh look, she wants her diaper changed! But now? Not so helpful when I pick her up from her crib at midnight (a whole different issue for another day) […]

You’re speaking my language
June 8th, 2007 · 2 Comments
Since Mae and Jules are the first twins I’ve known well and have watched develop, I’ve wondered at the veracity of the reports of secret twin language. It conjurs to mind an image of two wee children, hiding in the thickets in Grandmother’s garden, sitting knee to knee and whispering intently in a language only they […]

Davey’s day
June 7th, 2007 · No Comments
Happy birthday to my sweet, amazing little boy, Davey!
Boy, you rocked our world on this day five years ago. It has been quite a journey so far. I am sorry for the tough introduction to the world, tougher than any tiny babe deserves, and I am sorry for the hard moments since. Just look at […]
