This bloom appeared in my much neglected iron planter. I have no idea from what it sprang - certainly nothing I planted deliberately. A small gift from Mother Nature.
Update: According to Mom, this is a begonia. Thing is, I never bought, planted or otherwise conjured begonias in my flower garden. Not that I recall. But […]

Sick little girl

Today was supposed to be a busy day. Davey was scehduled to see his pulmonologist in Boston. The girls were supposed to go to my friend’s house - we have a Thurs/Fri morning kid exchange going on. I take her younger two one morning, she takes my younger two the next. It has been working […]

The things you see ’round these parts.
New Englanders love their Dunkins. I think it is in the books of every town’s bylaws that a Dunkins is mandated: 1 per every 5000 residents. The donuts are fab (from what I recall, pre-celiac diagnosis and from the rapture on my kids’ faces when they bite into one) […]

The princess and the pea

Jules makes bedtime quite the horrorshow. Her twin sister? Bedtime angel. This makes me happy in a small way.

The maple wears a gayer scarf,
The field a scarlet gown.
Lest I should be old-fashioned,
I’ll put a trinket on.

School, school… what to do…ool?

I like Edward’s school. I have nothing against it. We live in a town with a good, high test-scoring district, which encompasses two towns, as is common here in New England. We’ve paid many thousands of dollars in property tax in the past decade and a half to help ensure a good school system. That […]
Recess duty calling
September 20th, 2007 · 17 Comments
I had my first day of official recess monitor duty at Edward’s school. I volunteered for one day a week, doing the 3rd grade lunch recess. I was surprised at how excited Edward was that I was coming and how pleased he was to see me on the playground. He smiled at me throughout recess […]

An unSunday Sunday
September 17th, 2007 · No Comments
Usually I am not a big fan of Sundays. Something about Sunday has always rubbed me wrong. The day drags, chaos reigns, and I tend toward a sense of restlessness. When Sunday evening comes, I breathe a sigh of relief. This feeling has only grown in recent years as our weekends have devolved into periods of unstructured tension […]
