One of the things I wanted to know after Davey was born was what he would look like. I had barely a moment to gaze into his eyes before he was whisked off to the Special Care Nursery, then another too brief visit a few hours later when we were told for the first time […]

Anatomy of a roll

Now, just because I take pictures of horses doesn’t mean I think I’m some kind of Jr Pioneer Woman. I too have horses. I too am a photographer. Oh, and we both have four kids. But we live worlds apart, even though, yeah, sure, the life she’s living would have sounded like heaven to me […]

Get in the spirit, now!

I picked up an Advent calendar at the grocery store yesterday. I hesitated, for no good reason other than thinking, eh, I don’t really need to get one today. Then it hit me - we were already three days into the calendar. Time to make paper chains! Time to get lights on the house! Now, […]

Dashing through

Tiny flakes appeared just before the school bus this morning. By mid-morning, enough were falling to accumulate and the girls were enchanted and begging to go outside.
The horses seemed less than enchanted. They stood like this for over an hour. Geez, guys, it wasn’t that cold.

Glimpses of New England - part 1
November 13th, 2007 · No Comments
I promised you some images of New England landscapes. Here is the first set of photos. I shoot a lot of these type of images from a moving car (shooting blindly, keeping my eyes on the road). I’ve found that if I don’t shoot while moving, I’m never able to get any images of most […]

* […]

The past several evenings, I have glanced out the windows and been caught breathless by the gorgeous sunsets. I fear my camera does not begin to do them justice.

Red sky in morning
November 1st, 2007 · No Comments
I snapped awake, sat up and looked out the west window. The patch of sky was bright pink, streaked with red and pale orange. “Red sky in morning, sailors take warning….” I rose and went to the window. The horses were at the hay rack, munching. The sky, despite the ominous proverb, looked beautiful.
This morning, […]
Unexpectedly brilliant

A mild day of steady rain, drizzling to downpour to light sprinkles. Then the sun breaks through on the western horizon late in the afternoon. Minutes later, we are all gathered in the yard, gazing up at this gorgeous pair of rainbows.
Today is brilliantly sunny. But no chance of rainbows, alas.

Cute eyes

I’m busy, busy this morning. It’s Monday, working on edits to a manuscript, working on photos, listening to old Kate Bush, reveling in a glorious autumn day.
These little ones are of one of the many generations of raccoons who’ve been born and reared in the eaves of our barn. Cute, ain’t they?
