The facade of my Yankee neighbors and friends has crumbled. Winter ‘07-’08 has pushed them all over the edge. Many natives have told me recently how utterly sick they are of this winter. This morning, the gold standard of Yankee stoicism - my neighbor K - cracked. When she admits she’s sick of winter, you know it’s bad.
I am a bit surprised. This is not the worst winter we’ve had, both in terms of total snowfall or extreme cold snaps. But what is different is that we have had near-constant snow cover and snow storm after snow storm, with a few ice and freezing rain storms thrown in for variety, since mid-December. Not a single week has gone by without some precipitation.
Yes, it can be pretty.

But looks can be deceiving, people. Turn your back for a second and this is what you get.

Last night, as Dex was getting paid to hang out in warmish Texas, it started snowing here - AGAIN. We only got a half inch or so and the sun is out this morning, but the slight wind is bitter and DAMN, ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW!
March is coming. Those of you who are not from New England might think this knowledge brings some relief. You are perhaps unaware that March can dump an average of twenty inches of snow on these parts. Help me, April, you’re my only hope. (That and a gigantic moving van….)
