Lions and bears and… crabs

November 24th, 2007 · No Comments

Happy birthday, Dex! You may be an old man, but you’re my old man.

We ventured out today in search of something, anything entertaining. In a stroke of genius, Dex suggested the Ecotarium. We’d been once before and had fun. Of course, we only had two kids then.

The kids were all fascinated with the taxidermied animals and the pull-out display drawers of nests and eggs. Davey’s favorite, hands down, was the large, kid-eye-level tank replica of a tidal pool environment. The small crabs pressed themselves against the thick plexiglass and skittered back and forth.

I was intrigued and a little creeped out by the napping opossum. He/she was pressed against the glass, trying to nap and giving us the eye.

We had a long day out, complete with a birthday dinner at Texas Roadhouse and a stop at B&N (Dex and I took turns going in to browse while one of us stayed with kids in the car). A long day, but really a very nice day.
