The family movie

November 4th, 2007 · No Comments

Yesterday, because it was rainy and raw, we came up with the brainstorm of taking the kids to see “The Bee Movie”. Usually, Dex takes the boys to the movies while I stay home with the girls, but we decided now that the girls are two years oldĀ it was time for us to give it a whirl as a family.

We went to a late afternoon, post-nap showing. Before the movie, we strolled around the mall, pausing in the toy store (fool that I am) and hustling the twins past the little ride-on carousel. I gazed longingly at the coffee emporium as we passed the food court.

The movie experience was not too bad. Dex and Davey sat together and shared a bag of popcorn, which Davey held tightly throughout the showing. He loves popcorn. Ergo, he loves going to the movies. Actually, he likes watching too, enough to keep his glasses on without complaint.

In the next row back, I sat with the girls and Edward. After an initial M&M mishap, we settled in to watch the movie. Jules and Mae hung in, muching popcorn, climbing in and out of their seats and my lap, taking sips of Sprite and making scrunched up faces as the bubbles hit their tongues. The movie itself was entertaining. At least, the first two-thirds were, for that’s as much as I saw. I spent the last third in the corridor, watching Jules and Mae run back and forth and spin around the barrier tape poles, giggling. A couple of times I tried to take them back into the “moony” but they were in full giggle-and-dash mode, so back out we’d go.

By the time we got home, the three younger kids were asleep. We plopped them into bed in their clothes, tucked Edward in after his bowl of cereal, and sat down to watch “The Departed.” Ahhh, movies.
