I nabbed this from my friend Ruby (sorry, no link - she understands) in honor of Valentine’s Day
1. Where/how did you meet? We met at work. I tested the software code he wrote. We were both quite good at our jobs.
2. How long have you known each other? Since the summer of 1991.
3. How long after you met did you start dating? About 2-1/2 months.
4. How long did you date before you were engaged? For 3-1/2 years, including 2-1/2 of that living together. We got engaged on Feb 20th. Was supposed to be a Valentine’s Day proposal, but I had a cold so we delayed our evening out.
5. How long was your engagement? 14 months.
6. How long have you been married? Coming up on 12 years in April.
8. How many people came to your wedding reception? About 55. Maybe 52.
9. What kind of cake did you serve? White cake with white frosting and the standard decorative flowery things but not too fancy… I can’t even picture it right now. It was good though.
10. Where was your wedding? The Mary-Martha Chapel at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury Mass.
11. What did you serve for your meal? Gosh, um.. a choice between a chicken thing and a fish thing. Sit-down dinner.
12. How many people were in your bridal party? Eight. Wow, really, eight?! Huh.
13. Are you still friends with them all? Indeedy.
14. Did your spouse cry during the ceremony? Not full out weeping but he was teary-eyed. He’d probably deny it today. I, on the other hand, erupted in a burst of teardrops and nervous laughter at one point. Brief, it was brief.
15. Most special moment of your wedding day? A couple things stand out. I’ll give you two, though I will be shortchanging many moments. A) when my dad and I pulled up to the chapel in the horsedrawn carriage and I saw my grandma, who had traveled wheel-chair bound from Iowa, waiting for us, I almost lost all shred of composure. I knew how much it meant for her to be there and see my wedding. And B) when Dex and I were finally alone together in the carriage after the ceremony.
16. Any funny moments? Um… nothing stands out. There’s just too much anxiety around it all to laugh. Oh wait.. does my sister/maid of honor having to slap me out of my hysterics the day before count?
17. Any big disasters? Nope
18. Where did you go on your honeymoon? St Lucia
19. How long were you gone? A week.
20. If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change? At times I’ve thought we should have gotten married a little closer to home. All the out-of-state guests having to navigate NE backroads to find the Inn was nerve-wracking. But then I remember how perfect the location was … so no, not really. If anything I would have changed our honeymoon destination but really, it was fine.
21. What side of the bed do you sleep on? My side
22. What size is your bed? Queen. Our bed was our wedding gift from Dex’s parents. We had been making do with a double with a very worn out mattress until then. And oh, by the way, we just bought a BRAND NEW mattress tonight!
23. Greatest strength as a couple? We can make each other laugh at the worst of times.
24. Greatest challenge as a couple? Respect.
25. Who literally pays the bills? He does now. I did for a long time.
26. What is your song? “Feelings” Don’t ask (and see #23).
27. What did you dance your first dance to? Dex don’t do dancing, baby.
28. Describe your wedding dress: Jeez, ok. White. Long sleeved, v-neckline. It had lovely beadwork on it and I think it looked great on me.
29. What kind of flowers did you have at your wedding? I can’t remember. I know I really liked them.
30. Are your wedding bands engraved? No, we meant to but never got around to it. Maybe we still will.
